This is great advice. Avoid offending, be polite and respectful, and you can wander around being curious. Be a pain in the butt and you might get in trouble.

Great read. I think one thing travel does is that it makes you a bit more street smart, more aware. You learn to barter, you get into tricky situations, you learn from it, you get ripped off, learn from it etc. You learn to deal with different people in their home countries, understanding their cultures, even learning new languages. I reckon travelling nowadays would be a totally different experience to say 15 years ago. Even in backpackers these days everyone is just on their phone head down, not taking in anything around them just in their own bubble. It would be way harder to meet people and make meaningful connections. Can still happen of course but would be harder
